For those seeking a new career in the Information Technology industry or looking for advancement in their current IT job becoming certified in one of the CompTIA programs can provide a boost to your career.

Persons entering the computing industry workforce for the first time are likely to start their first assignment as a computer technician. The A+ certification demonstrates that an individual possesses the knowledge and skills essential for an entry-level computer service technician. Many companies looking for new hires in their Information Technology organizations now require that the job candidate be A+ certified.

The A+ certification is an international industry credential that validates the knowledge of computer service technicians with the equivalent of 500 hours of on the job experience. The A+ certification exams assesses basic computer service and repair skills covering a broad range of hardware and software technologies.

To achieve the A+ certification you must pass two separate examinations, the A+ Essentials (220-601) exam plus one elective exam, either 220-602, 220-603 or 220-604. The exams assume that you have a strong background and experience with pc hardware and operating systems. There are no prerequisites for taking the exams and once you have passed both exams you will receive a certificate from CompTIA which validates that you are A+ certified.

The Network+ credential certifies the knowledge of networking technicians with the equivalent of 18 to 24 months of on the job experience. Earning the Network+ certification demonstrates that the candidate possesses standard knowledge of networking technology and practices.

To achieve the Network+ certification you are required to pass only one examination, the Network+ (N10-003) exam. There are no prerequisites for taking the exam.
